Tengoku Daimakyou Anime Review Episode 5

1. maru

Tengoku Daimakyou Episode 5 begins with Maru retelling about himself who was born when the “Great Disaster” came. Basically, this requires Kiruko to find out what her mission is basically too simple: take Maru to “Heaven” and give the serum she has to someone who looks like her. Even though it sounds simple, there are many layers of mystery there, regarding the location of “Heaven”, whether that place really exists, to Maru’s ability to kill Man-eaters.

This episode provides more or less an overview of Maru, but there are still many other mysteries that arise. Maru’s extraordinary physical abilities were completely inexplicable. However, if we look at the children in the facility which is possibly “Heaven”, it is not impossible that this also has something to do with that facility.

Again, this episode also reveals the mystery little by little while still leaving other mysteries unanswered. Apart from that, this episode also describes how Maru sees Kiruko as not only his bodyguard, but someone he really likes. Despite the fact that Kiruko is Haruki, aka a man, Maru still admires and considers Kiruko as someone he likes.

2. Past and future

This episode also adds puzzles to solve in the series of stories. Starting from Tarao’s death and the mention of the “Destined Day” that couldn’t be prevented, we are given answers regarding the timeline that may have been deliberately allowed to blend in from the start. What is clear, Maru and Kiruko are in the period after the “Great Cataclysm” occurred. However, the children inside the facility most likely grew up before the “Great Cataclysm” and were prepared for it

Even so, this episode also doesn’t directly answer it clearly. Instead, we are led to think that maybe “Heaven” is the place where civilization has recovered that Kiruko mentioned. There’s still nothing definite, but it’s getting more and more exciting to see mystery after mystery being uncovered, but also still confusing like a tangled string of threads.

3. Bonds and Trust

The most interesting thing about this episode is the character development of Maru and Kiruko. The two seem to get along from the start, even though Maru calls Kiruko “One-chan” and has great respect for her. However, here we can see that Kiruko doesn’t allow herself to have the same feelings. His great sense of loss means that he doesn’t want to get too attached to people.

On the other hand, Maru is also seen as not a child who is easily attached and always allows himself to be “directed” by the adults who look after him. Because of that, the relationship between Maru and Kiruko in this episode looks special when Kiruko thinks she has lost Maru and starts to panic. In fact, his past still leaves deep scars for Kiruko. Having lost her brother and Robin, Kiruko can’t let herself lose another person.

The trust that Kiruko gave to Maru, and vice versa, shows how special the two of them value each other. Of course, there is still a long way to go and the bond between Maru and Kiruko will be an interesting one to follow.
