Fighting Dolls and Kotetsu.

Tanjiro accidentally eavesdrops on the conversation between Tokito and Kotetsu. Behind them, there is a figure that Tanjiro knows. The figure that had appeared in his dream before, the figure that had helped his ancestor back in his lifetime. This little memory possessed by Tanjiro will be important for the advancement of Tanjiro’s sword skills, especially in mastering fire breathing techniques.

Episode 2 doesn’t look like it wants to focus on one thing. Many things happened in this episode, starting from the introduction of Tokito’s character, Kotetsu, to Yoriichi Zero Shiki’s combat doll. Amidst this abundance of information, Tanjiro begins his intensive training with Yoriichi Zero Shiki.

After five days of grueling training from Kotetsu, Tanjiro finally succeeds against Yoriichi Zero Shiki’s combat puppet. However, what he found after that was even more surprising.

Tokito the Hashira of the Mist

Hashira Mist first appeared during the Hashira meeting held by Oyakata-sama. At that time, all that could be seen from Tokito was that he was a person who didn’t talk much, but when he spoke his words were sharp. Apart from that, he also respects Ubuyashiki aka Oyakata-sama, just like the other Hashiras.

Well, in Episode 2, Tokito’s character is finally seen. As the youngest Hashira who mastered the mist breathing technique he developed himself, Tokito is a serious person and can’t filter out words that might hurt the other person. Even though Tanjiro himself says he doesn’t have any malicious intent, his character makes Tokito difficult to approach.

In this episode, we are also shown a bit of Tokito’s skill in swords. As in the manga, Tokito is referred to as a Hashira who not only masters mist breathing, but also has sword skills beyond other Hashira.

This episode does feel like Tokito’s, but it really isn’t. That’s why, KINCIR says that there are too many things included in this episode and lots of distractions that divert us from the main plot.

Lots of Forced Humor

Speaking of distraction, KINCIR doesn’t mean to lower your expectations for this episode. However, somehow for the sake of duration so that this second episode ends right in the scene that makes us curious, there is a lot of unnecessary and forced humor. Unlike when we see Zenitsu with his cowardly behavior that always looks funny, this time the element of humor feels forced.

Kotetsu’s character is indeed an important part of this episode. However, Tokito’s crow doesn’t seem important enough to get that many scenes. Apart from that, the movement between one scene and another doesn’t feel like it’s flowing. This problem has already been seen in the manga and this arc is also not KINCIR’s favorite.

In fact, when there are no important and great fight scenes, Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Season 4 Episode 2 cannot attract KINCIR’s attention with its slow and long-winded storyline.
